Valentines Day
February is a month of romance and is when we celebrate Valentine’s
Day. The history of why we celebrate Valentine’s Day is a bit murky
and there are different versions of the story.
My favorite is the one that says Valentine sent the first one to a
blind girl he befriended while in prison.

Kids and Finance
Several years ago, I volunteered, with other businesspersons, to spend
a day with junior high school students to help them grasp the reality
of being an adult. The students arrived one busload at a time and went
from table to table where they experienced various parts of functioning
in the adult world. I was sitting next to the person designated as a
local bank. (I think I played the part of the IRS, but I don’t
remember.) Each child received a bank account to use during the day.
They were supposed to be prepared for us.
I couldn’t believe how many of them couldn’t do simple math. They
couldn’t believe that myself and the other adult could add and
subtract, in our heads, upside down. It was really eye opening to see
how uninformed they were about financial matters
Here’s a site that helps them learn about managing their money. (Oh
yes, it’s done in a fun entertaining way.)

Just for Little Ones
My last site is located in England. It provides a fun, educational
environment for kids up to 9 years of age. The site includes
sketchbooks, coloring books and games.

That’s if for February. Our thought and best wishes are with the
families of our astronauts.
